king9play Free children’s book about a lost baby turtle teaches kids about environmental stewardship
Children’s books are a great way to introduce important topics and pressing issues to young children. They have a friendly approach to difficult subjects without overwhelming kids with information.
“Si Peewee, ang Masayahing Pawikan,” is a new children’s book that takes on the importance of the environment, and how we should all care for our marine animals and the environment they belong to.
“Si Peewee, ang Masayahing Pawikan” was developed by Forest Foundation Philippines in partnership with Ekomunikatib Multimedia Consultancy Services through USAID’s Sustainable Interventions for Biodiversity, Oceans and Landscapes initiative.

It tells the story of Peewee, an adventurous sea turtle whose escapades inadvertently lead him away from his mother and to a fishing community where he meets Mira, a fisherfolk’s daughter. The story is set in Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, which can help young readers appreciate our local ecology.
Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park is a protected area that’s crucial to all sorts of wildlife, especially sea turtles. The park is also home to plants that help preserve the area’s ecological balance.
“Si Peewee, ang Masayahing Pawikan” is the second book released under Forest Foundation Philippine’s Project FOREST (Fostering Outdoor Reading and Environmental Stewardship Together) initiative.
The book is in Filipino and is geared towards elementary school readers to help instill a sense of environmental stewardship and responsibility in the youth.
