MANILA, Philippines — Cloudy skies and rain showers may prevail in some parts of Luzon and Mindanao while the rest of the country will experience fair weather on Friday, November 22, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Thursday.
In a 5 p.m. weather briefing, weather forecaster Chenel Dominguez said the northeast monsoon or “amihan” continues to prevail in the extreme northern Luzon.

“Patuloy ang pag-iral ng northeast monsoon sa may extreme northern Luzon kaya asahan na makakaranas sila ng maulap na papawirin at may pag-ulan,” Dominguez said.

Article continues after this advertisement“Yung malaking bahagi ng Luzon ay patuloy na makakaranas ng mainit at maalinsangan na tanghali hanggang hapon na mataas ang tyansa ng panandaliang pag ulan sa hapon at gabi dulot ng localized thunderstorms,” Dominguez added.

Dominguez said that the eastern section of Mindanao, particularly Davao Region will experience cloudy skies and rain due to the intertropical convergence zone.

The weather forecaster also noted that a gale warning is raised over the coastal areas of Batanes due to the northeast monsoon. She said that 2.8 to 4.5 meters high waves are likely to occur.
Further, Dominguez explained why most parts of the country are still experiencing generally hot weather despite the onset of the northeast monsoon season.
“Dulot po ito na wala pa pong surge o di pa po umaabot ang northeast monsoon sa malaking bahagi ng ating bansa. Patuloy na ito pa rin ay nakakaapekto lamang sa may extreme northern Luzon,” she stated.
(This is because there is still no surge or the northeast monsoon still has not reached most parts of the country. It continues to affect only in the extreme northern Luzon.)
